In recent years, even decades, home schooling, or the practice of educating your child or children within the home as opposed to sending them to a public or private school, is slowly making its way back to the educational mainstream.

This alternate way to educate elementary and high school children dates back to 1906 in the United States when the Calvert Day School in Baltimore, Maryland offered the "curriculum in a box". They partnered with a National Geographic advertisement during that time. Shortly after five years, almost 300 children used Calvert's instructional materials to home school. About a century later, this method, as well as many other methods and educational materials developed, spread quickly not only within the U.S. but also to 90 other countries all over the globe.

Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Edison, Dakota Fanning (a famous Hollywood actress) and Albert Einstein are some, but certainly not all of the notable people who have been home schooled.

All through history, the way home school education has been taught has been quite effective. But, with advancements in technology and the yearning to learn has increased in the home school student, modifications have been made to provide a more stimulating curriculum, encouraging our children to reach for the stars.
